Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are the education of women in craft and culinary skills, confidence building, encouragement in developing skills in speech, drama and music, and all artistic talents, giving an opportunity to take part in sporting activities, providing education in health issues, cross-community opportunities to

volunteer within the wider community at home and abroad and providing an opportunity for friendship with like-minded women. These benefits are demonstrated through craft entries which are submitted for judging within the Federation throughout the year, at the Balmoral Show, the City of Belfast Autumn Flower Show and a Festival of Food and Flowers organised biannually within the Federation. The benefits are also demonstrated through the judging of participants taking part in the golf, bowling and badminton competitions and Speech, Drama and Music Festivals within Institutes, Areas and the Federation. No formal feedback from users is requested, however, the interest in these activities can be clearly demonstrated by the increasing number of entries submitted and the standard which is attained. If there are not sufficient entries in any of the competitions organised, the competitions and festivals would not continue from year to year. It is not envisaged that these activities will lead to any harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are the members of the organisation and their families who indirectly benefit from the skills acquired by the members. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that some individual members may be employed as tutors in the running of one-day schools and craft classes within the Institutes, Areas or the Federation. This benefit is incidental and necessary because members of the organisation have attained the skills which we wish to pass on to the beneficiaries and are best qualified to do so.
