Public benefits

The public benefit flowing from purpose 1 is that the Association has built a new Community Hall in an extremely isolated rural environment where there had been no meeting place for community groups or organisations previously. The benefits are now available to mothers and toddlers, a Youth Club, families and the elderly residents of Tirgan and

district. The benefits can be measured by the number of events organised by the Association or other community organisations but run in the Association's premises and the numbers of people attending each event. The benefits can also be evaluated by satisfaction surveys which are regularly conducted by the Association and by discussions with other organisations who make use of the facility. There is no harm flowing from this purpose and no private benefit. The public benefit flowing from purpose 2 is that the residents of Tirgan and district have access to a whole variety of education and training courses such as Art, Flower Arranging, Dance, Photography, First Aid, Food Hygiene, etc. The residents also benefit from health promotion activities such as Farm Safety Awareness, Healthy Eating & Cooking, Diabetes Awareness, Cancer Focus NI and by access to Hill Walks and country hiking which are promoted by the Association. These benefits can be measured by the numbers of people participating in all of these activities and by evaluation forms which are completed on a regular basis at the end of such activities. There is no private benefit from these activities apart from payment to Speakers and Tutors. These payments are ancillary to the activities. There is no other private gain and no harm involved with this purpose. The public benefit flowing from purpose 3 is the fact that local people living in a very remote and rurally isolated community which has little or no access to public transport have a venue where they can come and meet and participate in a range of activities, social evenings, tea dances, music events, story telling, reminiscence and other recreation activities. This provides benefits to all ages, mothers and toddlers can meet weekly, the youth club provides facilities for young people up to the age of 15, their keep-fit activities including dance, boxercise for people of all ages and special activities for the elderly. This means that local people can access all of these activities locally, all ages benefit and there is no private gain or harm associated with the activities. The benefits can be measured by the numbers of people getting involved in each activity and by attitude surveys which are regularly carried out by the management committee. The committee also measures the benefits by talking to participants, involving them in planning and measuring the satisfaction for each event. The public benefit flowing from purpose 4 are that any residents of Tirgan and district who suffers from ill health or disability will be supported to participate in all activities organised by the Association. Special consideration is given to residents disadvantaged age, unemployment or poverty by offering special concessions. Other benefits flowing from this purpose is that people from all sides of the community are encouraged to participate in all activities so that people get an opportunity to meet and mix with individuals from different parts of the religious/political divide thereby encouraging equality and diversity. These benefits are measured by the numbers of disadvantaged individuals or those suffering from ill health or disability becoming involved in any of the activities promoted by the Association. The facility is purpose built to be disabled friendly. Further benefits are also measured by the numbers of events promoted by residents from various sides of the religious divide and the number of events attended by cross community participants. There is no harm flowing from this purpose and no private gain.

What your organisation does

The Association has built a community venue in Tirgan, an isolated rural community which preciously had no community amenity. This facility is open to all residents of Tirgan and district. The Association offers space to any or all community groups or organisations who wish to use the facility for private or public meetings. We also provide

classes and courses, talks, lectures. We promote healthy recreation through hiking and walking, keep fit, healthy eating, obesity awareness, diabetes awareness, cancer focus and farm safety. We offer a Mother & Toddler group, a weekly youth club, tea dances, musical evenings, concerts and other typical community, social and recreational activities. We support people of all ages particularly those who may for one reason or other be disadvantaged. At the same time we encourage the use of our facilities and the participation in all of our activities right across the political religious divide in an attempt to promote good community relations, equality and diversity.
