Public benefits
The directors believe that all four purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. Purpose One The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include physical safety in an environment free from stress anxiety and abuse. These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback from residents and independent evaluation by
professional counsellors. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are women and children who have been trafficked into or from within Northern Ireland or who, as EU citizens, have been trafficked in other EU countries. A private benefit arises for directors and volunteers who receive free accommodation as the residential carers, and for suppliers of food, heating and other utilities. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Two The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the restoration of dignity self-respect and confidence, and the empowerment to live a meaningful and sustainable life in society without the risk of being exploited as a vulnerable person. These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback from residents. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are women and children who have been trafficked into or from within Northern Ireland or who, as EU citizens, have been trafficked in other EU countries. A private benefit arises for professionals who provide necessary expertise, and for volunteers who gain experience in providing life skills that can be transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Three The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increasing community awareness about human trafficking and the creation of a network of people able to respond to the needs of trafficking victims. These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback from members of the community who participate in the training. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are adults in Northern Ireland who wish to be informed about and equipped to engage with victims of human trafficking. A private benefit arises for participants in the training who may acquire knowledge and skills that are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Four The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the strengthening of family units and the equipping of families with tools to work through conflict and uncertainty. These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback from participating families. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are families in Northern Ireland who are either in need of help to restore family values and/or are unable for economic reasons to take a short holiday. A private benefit arises for suppliers of food, heating and other utilities. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
