Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include an enhancement of cultural offerings for the general public; a wider appreciation of the arts among the general public; improved access to and resources for training, support and facilities in all aspects of the performing arts for the general public (particularly those members of the public
who have historically low levels of previous participation/representation in the arts); improvement of social welfare through improved facilities for recreation or other leisure-time occupation related to the arts for people who are in need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, disability or infirmity or their social, economic circumstances; greater cultural cohesion through the engagement of minority cultures in the arts through development and mentoring of artists, writers and performers from minority cultures; greater assimilation in society by people of minority cultures through a better understanding of cultural difference and a celebration of common humanity. These benefits are demonstrated through regular evaluations; audience feedback; feedback from community workshop participants; feedback from individuals and organisations to whom we deliver training and the numbers participating in our community workshops, training programmes and cultural events and attending our performances. As far as we are aware the purpose of our charity will not lead to any harm. As stated above, the charity’s beneficiaries are the general public and in particular, those members of the public who have historically low levels of previous participation/representation in the arts. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is trustees gaining experience from occasional training in good governance delivered to the Board and this is incidental and necessary because the private benefit to individual trustees is outweighed by the greater public benefit of an organisation with strong governance.
