The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: opportunities for mutual support, sharing issues of common concern, collaborating effectively, and working on new initiatives. Can you demonstrate this? This benefit is evidenced through feedback from beneficiaries, government statistics or annual reports, representation at forum meetings and sub-groups. Purpose 4 What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: more welcoming and supportive community, where diversity is accepted. Can you demonstrate this? This benefit is evidenced through feedback from beneficiaries, government statistics or annual reports, representation at forum meetings and sub-groups, development of wider networks. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefits? We believe that this purpose will lead to no clearly identified harm. Who is the benefit for? The charity’s beneficiaries are inhabitants of the Knocknagoney, Garnerville and Orchardville areas of Belfast and their environs Is there any private benefit? Is it incidental or necessary? There may be private benefits from the provision of training and support in good governance, finance etc through which trustees may gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. Private benefit may also be gained where a trustee, by nature of their circumstance and residency, is entitled to the same opportunities to access facilities and services as other beneficiaries e.g. their children attending additional educational support sessions or elderly parents participating in health initiatives. These opportunities would be assigned in the same way as all other beneficiaries. These benefits would be incidental and necessary to ensure the benefits provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Knocknagoney Area Forum: has established five subgroups to work towards the meeting of our objectives. Community Cohesion: Education and Family: Environmental; Health & Wellbeing and Goverance. these subgroups consist of forum members, local residents and other interested individuals/ agencies. They purpose is to increase participation, enhance

information, ideas and solutions as well as researching and / or developing relevant projects. All subgroups report to the main forum on a monthly/ bimonthly basis. The Forum (i) holds public meetings to identify and raise awareness of local issues affecting the community; (ii) informs the community of local support services; (iii) briefs elected representatives on the needs of the area; (iv) organises annual community events and encourages volunteering; (v) promotes / organises social events; (vi) makes improvements to the built and natural environment by co-ordinating clean-up campaigns and lobbying for additional local services and resources such as the community garden, play facilities and open spaces; (vii) organises inter-generational projects and events to increase understanding between the generations, share experiences, reduce fear and build mutual respect; (viii) facilitates the increase of services and facilities for younger people by delivering relevant youth training programmes and supporting the formation of after-schools / homework clubs; (ix) organises health events in the community, distributes health information and has initated a community pharmacy programme; (x) endeavours to improve links between the community and health professionals; (xi) implements a winter support plan for vulnerable and isolated residents; (xii) raises awareness of safety issues in the area.

Charitable purposes

(1) Promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Knocknagoney, Garnerville and Orchardville areas of Belfast and their environs (the “area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnic identity, nationality, disability, or political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to:- (a) promote education and training; (b) relieve those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability or other disadvantage; (c) promote health and well-being and healthy recreation; (d) enhance community safety; (e) promote environmental improvement and otherwise improve the appearance of the area of benefit; (2) Advance community development in the area of benefit and in particular the promotion of the community and voluntary sector for the benefit of the public by: (a) providing support and information; (b) creating and supporting initiatives, developing projects and organising events that strengthen the community and voluntary sector; (c) promoting community capacity building; (d) promoting good practice among community and voluntary groups; (e) encouraging such groups to co-operate to achieve their aims. (3) Provide and maintain a Forum where member organisations can join together to find mutual support, exchange views, share common issues and information, create a collective voice and work in partnership with statutory agencies and authorities. (4) Promote good community relations, social cohesion, religious and racial harmony and equality and diversity.
