Purpose 1 To advance the education of adults and young people in the areas of the Verbal Arts and to enable them to engage and participate in all aspects of the creation and appreciation of the Verbal Arts and in associated creative and imaginative activities What benefits flow from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose

include; • the reduction of social isolation among older people • Improved levels of self-confidence and self-esteem among young people particularly those from areas of high socio/economic deprivation, with statements of special educational needs and vulnerable young people at risk • Improved community relations among young people in formal education and community sector Can you demonstrate this? These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from programme participants, user groups and stakeholders as well as regular independent evaluation of our activities through participant surveys and interviews. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefit? This purpose does not lead to harm. Purpose 2 To advance public appreciation of the imaginative, creative and practical Verbal Arts, as a heritage and as a practice, and to promote excellence and awareness of excellence in these areas, within and through education. What benefits flow from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include; • The promotion and distribution of the literary and verbal arts through publication • The advancement of Peace building and reconciliation, equality and diversity through programme and event development Can you demonstrate this? These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from audience member, readers and programme participants, user groups and stakeholders. Regular independent evaluation of programme activities is carried out through participant surveys and interviews. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefit? This purpose does not lead to harm. There is no private benefit flowing from the purpose. The beneficiaries are the general public.
