The purposes of The William Keown Trust are to further the aim of assisting and helping people with disabilities in their effort to overcome their disability and to assist them to lead constructive and useful lives. The direct benefits which flow from this include: • Inspiring and instilling confidence in people with disabilities • Challenging
public perception of disabilities to create a momentum for change These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Prestigious public perception of the Trust’s Access Awards • Public’s acceptance and embracement of the many benefits delivered by the Achievements Awards • Large number of recipients of the Achievements Awards and the consequential uplifting experiences encountered by recipients and onlookers alike The beneficiaries of the purposes of the Trust: • Residents of NI and all visitors to the province who have access to an improved built environment as a result of the Trust’s encouraging initiatives • People with disabilities, their carers and their immediate families There is no harm flowing from this purpose. Championed by its founder, Bill Keown, The William Keown Trust is renowned for its unique approach to increasing awareness for and recognition of people with disabilities and their carers in everything they do and particularly for those with aspirations to be involved in community life and productiveness. The Trust actively promotes better
education of the built environment sector and the public in general. This includes the promotion of good architectural design and build, particularly with regard to access, internal circulation and egress. It lobbies for the benefit of disadvantaged members of our community with particular emphasis on those people with disabilities. The Trust makes grants available for research into physical disability.
