The advancement of health or the saving of lives Through the provision of opportunities for a healthier, more active lifestyle we provide an identifiable, direct benefit to the public. Sailing is a therapeutic exercise benefiting those with mobility difficulties. We provide instruction in safety/rescue boat skills and provide rescue boats &
trained crews at open sea water sport events. The advancement of education Through our training centre facilities the public benefit directly by receiving instruction and education in sailing skills and have the opportunity to train as instructors themselves. The opportunities have an identifiable benefit through achievement of skills and recognised qualifications. The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage We welcome all people with disabilities or suffering from being disadvantaged in society. Our participants gain recognisable, direct benefits through the promotion of inclusion, self-esteem, confidence building and participation in sporting activities. We have bursary funds available to alleviate financial hardship on those wishing to participate in sport or undertake training. The advancement of amateur sport The public gain a direct, identifiable benefit from receiving tuition in the sport of sailing and having the opportunity to compete in local and international sailing competitions at little or no cost. The advancement of citizenship or community development The public gain a direct, recognisable benefit from our aims through the promotion of inclusion and equality in all aspects of our training and sailing. We actively promote good citizenship and community development through established programmes of volunteering and achievement awards. The advancement of environmental protection or improvement Through our provision of opportunities for the public to study local marine wildlife on Belfast Lough with shore and water based study trips, and our development of a purpose built environmental studies centre in Carrickfergus, we provide a direct, identifiable benefit to the public at little or no cost. BLS has a fleet of 17 sail/power boats. Working from Carrickfergus we provide sailing & boating opportunities to people with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds. Participants can choose to enjoy recreational or leisure boating, undertake training & education or compete in competitions. BLS has a team of qualified instructors to
provide internationally recognised qualifications in sailing/powerboating, first aid, radio, navigation & disability awareness. BLS also proactively promotes volunteering opportunities to enhance a sense of inclusion and self-worth in our participants. BLS travels throughout the island of Ireland to provide opportunities to those in need of our facilities.
