Public benefits

The trust’s purpose is to manage investments and to pay the net income generated from the share portfolio to the pupils of the Roman Catholic Boys’ Public Elementary School and the pupils of the Roman Catholic Boys’ National School. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are the financial assistance to the pupils at the Roman Catholic

Boys’ Public Elementary School and the pupils of the Roman Catholic Boys’ National School and to assist pupils of the said schools to continue their education at any Catholic Secondary School in Ireland. The intended beneficiaries are pupils at the Roman Catholic Boys’ Public Elementary School and the pupils of the Roman Catholic Boys’ National School We confirm that there is no harm or private benefit flowing from carrying out the purposes of the Meeley Family Scholarships.

The trustee manages the share portfolio and pays the net income generated from that portfolio to the charitable beneficiaries named in the Will of the late Michael Meeley who died on 16th September 1946.

Charitable purposes

"I direct that my executors and trustees shall immediately after the expiration of the period of twenty one years mentioned in paragraph 1 on the fifth page of my said Will, purchase or set aside sufficient securities to bring in an income of approximately Sixty pounds per annum and shall pay the income produced by such securities each year to the trustees of the Meeley Family Benevolent and Educational Trust. The trustees of the said Trust shall use the said income for the purpose of establishing two perpetual scholarships to be called The Meeley Family Scholarships. One of the said scholarships shall be available to the pupils of the Roman Catholic Boys' Public Elementary School, Carlton Street, Drumcree, Portadown and the other shall be available to the pupils of the Roman Catholic Boys' National School, Athleague, County Roscommon and shall be used for the purpose of assisting pupils of the said schools to continue their education at any Catholic Secondary School in Ireland"
