Public benefits
a) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include less racial discrimination, greater equality of opportunity and improved relationships between people from racial groups. This will be demonstrated through feedback from member organisations and regular independent evaluation of our services. There is no risk of harm
identified. Beneficiaries will include people of minority ethnic background, people living in local communities and the statutory bodies and community voluntary agencies who serve them. The beneficiaries will primarily be from South Belfast but will also include people from across all of Northern Ireland. Trustees as members of local communities, community voluntary groups, statutory bodies or as minority ethnic people will benefit however these benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure benefit is provided to all our beneficiaries. b) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include greater acceptance of diversity, less discrimination, greater equality and intercultural understanding and increased social harmony This will be demonstrated through evaluation completed by individuals at training sessions, workshops and through regular independent evaluation of our services There is no risk of harm identified Beneficiaries will include people of minority ethnic background, people living in local communities and the agencies who serve them. There will be an increase in research into the causes of and appropriate responses to racism – making public the findings will inform practice in this area of work. Racism will be reduced. This will be demonstrated by regular evaluation of our projects and the delivery of research and publication of findings which are useful for anti racist practice. In raising the issue of racism in local communities there is a risk of escalating race related tensions however the benefit of doing so in an appropriate manner, backed up by research on good practice, outweighs the risk Beneficiaries will include people of minority ethnic background, people living in local communities and the statutory bodies and community voluntary agencies who serve them. The beneficiaries will primarily be from South Belfast but will also include people from across all of Northern Ireland. Trustees as members of local communities, community voluntary groups, statutory bodies or as minority ethnic people will benefit however these benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure benefit is provided to all our beneficiaries. d) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include an increase in anti racist resources tailored specifically to locally identified needs. There will be an increase in anti racist practice and the use of appropriate effective methodologies. This will be demonstrated by regular evaluation of our services and the monitoring of delivery of effective resources and projects. There is no risk of harm identified. Beneficiaries will include people of minority ethnic background, people living in local communities and the statutory bodies and community voluntary agencies who serve them. South Belfast Roundtable was established in January 2004 as response to the rising trend of racist attacks in South Belfast. This initiative brings together representatives from minority ethnic groups, local community, church, political leaders, and representatives of key statutory bodies with an interest in addressing racism in South Belfast in a
positive and proactive way. The mission of the Roundtable is to “work in partnership to challenge racism and promote diversity in South Belfast.” It works in three strategic areas: ? Good Relations; ? Education and Learning; and ? Sustainability (strategy and funding) It aims to: ? Facilitate information-sharing and discussions amongst all relevant South Belfast stakeholders, at both a formal and less formal levels; ? Develop and participate in a strategic educational process in South Belfast that will promote improved mutual understanding, contact, interaction and cohesiveness; ? Develop and implement a communications strategy that will effectively tackle, challenge and/or manage racism-related (and potentially crisis) situations in South Belfast; ? Work collaboratively with other relevant stakeholders in South Belfast to present positive images of inclusion and diversity through highlighting examples of good anti-racist practice.

a)work towards the elimination of racial discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups by co-operating with other community and voluntary organisations, statutory authorities and agencies, private sector bodies and individuals to develop and implement effective strategies to counter racist attitudes, behaviour and harassment; b)promote diversity, non-discrimination, equality and intercultural understanding and social harmony; c)advance the education of the public in the causes and effects of racism, racial discrimination and hostility on grounds of race and to promote research into racism and publish the useful results of such research; d)promote, encourage and stimulate the production and use of anti-racist resources and anti-racist practice which contribute to balanced human development.
