The Playgroup is established to promote play based learning environments for all children under statutory school age (hereinafter referred to as the “beneficiaries”) of the Whitehead, Carrickfergus and surrounding environs in Co Antrim (thereinafter called the “area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, marital status, disability, sexual
orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organizations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and in particular: a. To advance the education of the beneficiaries by the provision of safe and satisfying group play, with the right of parents/carers to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of the group, and to promote the preservation of health of the beneficiaries. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include: • Preparation of each child for primary education; • Mastering the basic skills of expression, communication, problem solving, early mathematics, creativity, knowledge of the world around us, experimentation and exploration and physical development; • The ability to relate to other children and adults. These benefits are evidenced through: • Interviews where there is a two way sharing of information between staff and parents / carers, where staff observations and progress reports are sued to inform parent / carers. • Parental questionnaires to gain the opinion of parent carers; • Voice of the child; • The well being of the children eg, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Health Eating and Exercise Policies; • Annual Inspection by Social Services Trust and regular inspection by Education and Training Inspectorate (Department of Education). b. To Support the Value and Principles of Early Years – the Organisation for Young Children The direct benefits that flow from this purpose are: The provision of safe caring, welcoming and understanding environment, within which the children obtain their first experience of education. This benefit is evidenced through: • Interviews where there is a two way sharing of information between staff and parents / carers, where staff observations and progress reports are sued to inform parent / carers. • Voice of the child; • Parental questionnaires to gain the opinion of parent carers; • Annual Inspection by Social Services Trust and regular inspection by Education and Training Inspectorate (Department of Education) This purpose does not give rise to any harm The beneficiaries of this purpose are: • All children aged two and ten months to statutory school age in the Whitehead, Carrickfergus and surrounding areas, without distinction of age, gender, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion. A private benefit may arise occasionally through attendance at training for Management Committees and Management Committee Members may gain skills that are transferable to other settings, these benefits are incidental and necessary to the provision of the benefit of our beneficiaries.

OBJECTIVES • To create a stimulating, caring and safe educational environment for all children in our care, to actively promote the development of positive self image within the children, • To work in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals. • To take account of the children’s needs arising from race, culture, language and religion. • To provide quality care and education for pre-school children and to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum to met the individual needs of each child. • To formulate and encourage equal opportunities for both adults and children. • To support staff on training courses enabling them to develop skills and confidence through sharing full responsibility for their Playgroup. • To provide and atmosphere which makes the child and their parent / carer happy and comfortable within the Playgroup.
