Public benefits

We provide a place of Prayer and retreat to all peoples of all nationality, race, religious or political affiliation. Our main work is primarily in the Cookstown area but we also seek to provide these services throughout Ireland, UK, Europe and rest of the world. Our doors are open to all and we provide a listening ear and place of prayer and

retreat for the general public and for those experiencing personal or spiritual turmoil. Through the availability of community prayer times and the open door to the prayer room the general public can avail of the peace and solace they may seek and feel a closer relationship to God. The retreat facility provides respite and a place of quiet for those experiencing difficulties in their life. We have a weekly Prayer Meeting offering people the opportunity to express their faith through prayer and song. It leaves them with a profound sense of well being and deepens their relationship with God. Prayer times allow freedom to express faith and gain strength to meet with the possible obstacles people may be experiencing in their personal lives. We sell religious books and other religious articles of spiritual benefit. We have a mail list where we send out a monthly newsletter to UK, Ireland and Europe and to the rest of the world we provide a three monthly edition which feature articles which help the general public to mature spiritually. This is provided free of charge, with just a small suggested yearly donation. The literature enables the general public to explore and further enhance their faith. We also seek to reach out to the youth of our community through a soup kitchen, ’The Gathering Place’ at the weekend providing soup, tea and coffee free of charge. Through this we endeavour to promote Christianity by our example. The young gain a sense of the ‘Love thy neighbour’ ethos at work and begin to question their own spirituality. They are confident that in the Gathering place they have a source of help, practical or otherwise. We have a music ministry who sing voluntarily at Church services in our community and further afield enhancing Church liturgy and enabling people to communicate more deeply with God thereby gaining a great sense of peace and inner strength. The music has a very reflective as well as uplifting effect on those who listen to it. We also reach out and seek to relieve the suffering of others through street collections for 'The Forgotten Poor'. We operate the funds along the guidance of the Bible to, 'feed the hungry, clothe the naked and give the thirsty a drink' and specifically those who are not being helped by the larger charities and are forgotten. Those who receive help are lifted out of their immediate problems and encouraged to continue on. We have a charity shop selling used clothes, footwear etc. to ease financial hardship and provide a valuable and necessary service to those in the local community who find it difficult to provide necessary clothing for themselves or family. We can evaluate the effectiveness of our services mostly through feedback received from the members of the public. Feedback is given by word of mouth, letters and telephone calls. We also evaluate the services we provide by the great interest and appreciation which is demonstrated through favourable comments and correspondence received from the general public. We are not aware of any harm which flows from our services. The trustees and volunteers also benefit from being part of the group. Many of them have experienced turmoil in their personal life and through volunteering have overcome these trials. Through the help they have received they can identify with the concerns and worries of others and provide an understanding, listening ear to those experiencing similar problems. They have also received various life skills such as first aid training and a building of self worth and confidence through the work they do. This is incidental in achieving the overall benefits.

What your organisation does

Our doors are open to all denominations. We primarily offer a place of Prayer and Retreat for all. We offer organised times of retreat and private retreat. We provide a listening ear to those experiencing difficulty or trauma in their lives and support them in whatever way possible. We refer those who we cannot assist to the relevant agencies and

offer help and support when necessary. We have an open prayer room and weekly prayer meeting in the House of Prayer. We have set up other Houses of Prayer throughout the world and continue to make these fit for purpose as and when funds allow. We publish and print a monthly newsletter for anyone wishing to receive it in Europe. A three monthly edition is sent out to the rest of the world. We further seek to promote Christianity through our music ministry who perform, at least every two weeks, at Church services. These services have no fee attached. We reach out to the young within our community and provide a soup kitchen at weekends which promotes Christian values to the young by our example. Soup, tea and coffee are available at no charge and we are also there to assist the youth with other problems which they may encounter after a night out. We also reach out and seek to relieve the suffering of others through street collections for 'The Forgotten Poor'. We operate this along the guidance of the Bible to 'feed the hungry, clothe the naked and give the thirsty a drink' and try to reach out to those who are not being helped by the larger charities, specifically those who are forgotten. As we all work on a voluntary basis one hundred per cent of all donations given to ‘The Forgotten Poor’ go directly to the cause. We have a charity shop selling used clothes, footwear etc and sell these at lower prices than other shops. We have our equestrian center up and running and are fulfilling our objectives of promoting healthy recreation and education in equestrian sport.
