Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from our purposes include hope and peace experienced and a sense of community among those who otherwise may experience loneliness and isolation. We provide a social outlet for people of all ages and a network of care and mutual support. Indirectly, our volunteers grow in confidence and learn skills that are easily

transferable enabling them to make a valuable contribution in the wider community. We provide a public gathering whereby members of the community may attend for public worship and other services. This provides an opportunity for all persons to exercise their personal faith or simply to be a part of the public worship. Public meetings are open to all and all are welcome to attend. The church believes that the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will have a transforming effect on all who receive it, that this will benefit their own lives, enhancing their individual role and impact in the local community for the good of all. In terms of measuring this element, we do not maintain a formal record of the number of adults attending public services. We maintain a register of all under 18's who attend the various activities and organisations, this is a necessary part of our chid protection policy. Whilst increased numbers would not necessarily be the sole measure of the public benefit, this is a strong indicator of footfall and uptake of the different elements. Regular attendance at public meetings is encouraged for all associated with the church and those in formal membership. Those attending are also entreated to invite others along to the various meetings and events. This is also publicised through an external website. Various social media forums will be used along with regular advertising through the local press to advertise public meetings and special events. Feedback is actively encouraged through the organisations and other activities. The activities and aims of the church are scrutinised and evaluated. The diaconate (oversight committee for the church) receives periodic feedback on all activity, received from the leaders and other members of the organisations. This is used to evaluate current activity, its impact and benefit to those participating in the various activities and determine future activity, improving on exiting practice and creating a more effective program to reach into the local community. There is no harm to any member of the public which we can identify. The beneficiaries are those who are members of our church and those non-members who derive benefit from attending our services, the services and events are public meetings or specific events hosted by our church. These would be covered by the geographic area of Antrim and Newtownabbey and others attend from areas of Belfast. Private Benefit - A minister and church visitor are employed by the church. Neither of whom are trustees. Both are paid a salary. These positions are essential to efficient running of the church and aspects of pastoral care for the congregation and other members of the public. The minister will perform public duties including the public services of worship, private counselling, officiating at funerals and marriages. The church visitor will be involved in pastoral care for the congregation and care for elderly and the sick providing a vital link between the church and individuals who are unable to attend. Duties would include visiting those in their own home or in state or private residential care.
