Public benefits
The Friends of the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra assists the Orchestra in its pursuit of excellence and in its inspiration of the younger members of the City of Belfast School of Music. The primary beneficiaries of the FCBYO are the members of the Orchestra in any one year, since its support enhances the experience and musical education of the
members, and increases the accessibility of tours to those from less advantaged families by helping to make these affordable to all members. This facilitates the Orchestra in its promotion of a positive profile of young people from Northern Ireland who are keen to develop their musical talent. The facilitation of the organisation and funding of national and international tours by the Orchestra will be of benefit to a wider public by providing an opportunity to hear orchestral music played at a lower cost than for hearing professional orchestras. In addition, a much more hopeful and encouraging image of Belfast will be projected to audiences, especially outside Northern Ireland, where previously a more negative impression of the City may have been widespread. These benefits will be evidenced through the funding that is raised for international tours every two years and for residential training in non-tour years, and through the concerts by the Orchestra, within Northern Ireland, in the UK or abroad, that are put on with the assistance of the activities of the FCBYO. None of the purposes of the FCBYO will result in harm, and there will be no private beneficiaries.

The FCBYO assists the Orchestra to carry out its activities by raising funds through organising ballots, social events, performances by small musical ensembles, etc., and through advertising the activities of the Orchestra to potential funders, such as trust funds, local businesses and public bodies, all of whom wish to encourage the positive image
of Northern Ireland that the Orchestra promotes.
