The benefits flowing from the purposes are in a variety of formats as follows: - COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Combat social isolation in the elderly. Promote community wellbeing and enhance the quality of life through cross community groups. Develop economic social, environmental and cultural aspects of life. HEALTH (PHYSICAL / MENTAL) To provide
exercise sessions through armchair aerobics and also a walking group. Luncheon club that members can attend each Friday. Members have the option of regularly attending a film club, the films watched provide mental stimulation. EDUCATION by enhancing knowledge of the arts, heritage and culture. To experience cultural events. Mental awareness. To educate members regarding physical wellbeing. Our monthly trips are planned to involve all members of the group. The committee plan the monthly events which will take the form of an outing to a place of interest, or else a lunch at a local hotel and an after dinner speaker. The speaker will always impart educational information which will improve their mental well being, broaden horizons, improve lifelong learning. The exercise class aims to educate the members about the importance of some physical activity in the lives of each member. CULTURAL & HERITAGE The trips are planned so that the development of knowledge is foremost SOCIAL Members thoroughly enjoy all the outings that are planned, they meet up with friends and enjoy the interaction within the group.. HEALTH Social interaction - since our groups meet regularly the prevention of social isolation is foremost. Confidence building – challenges are given to members at the exercise class, this improves the confidence of the individual. Members will experience a reduction in the levels of stress and anxiety in their lives since they are able to make plans, get out, meet up with group members, extend friendships and combat social isolation. They will experience physical / dietary benefits from attending the luncheon club each Friday HOW BENEFITS ARE EVIDENCED Evaluation sheets Positive oral feedback. Excellent attendance at various outings and classes. Newspaper reports. Very positive feedback. BENEFIT OUTWEIGHTS HARM Trips / outings / workshops are all organised with consideration to size/ability / physical health accessibility to minimize risk or likelihood of harm. Outings are pre arranged and a full risk assessment carried out. Full insurance cover is always organised. With all exercise classes there is the potential for harm but in a controlled environment this is minimized. At the luncheon club the food is prepared and served in a very high level of hygiene consideration is taken for special dietary guidelines WHO ARE THE BENEFITS FOR? Older people of Mourne area and its surrounding locality who are no longer in full time gainful employment PRIVATE BENEFITS Revenue to places used for outings/workshops. Room rental. Transport company. The Church who provide facilities for the luncheon club. The Council for room rental. All of these benefits are necessary and incidental in providing the benefits from the purposes.
