Public benefits
Purposes The Friends of the Ulster Museum (“the Friends”) was established in 1970 with the charitable purpose of supporting the Ulster Museum (“the Museum”) and its objectives in order to promote its use and enjoyment by the public. Benefits The benefits flowing from this purpose include, directly, support to the Board of Trustees and Chief
Executive of the Museum and assistance to them to acquire and preserve objects for the Museum’s collection – this leads to much wider benefit to the public at large:- Objects are exhibited in the Museum to members of the public, which augments their knowledge and education, assists them in understanding the significance of the objects displayed in the Museum and promotes study and research. Awareness, appreciation and understanding on the part of the public of art, history and science and different cultures and ways of life are, in this way, increased and their knowledge and education are augmented. The Friends’ contribution to the Museum accrues for the benefit of the general public attending the Museum in the ways above set out and, in particular, of youth and school groups in furtherance of their education, and also in promotion of study and research and the augmentation of knowledge of the areas of artistic and scientific work in which the Museum engages. The benefits are clearly tangible and might be proven through the presence of improved resources at the museum and feedback/submissions from members of the public who gain from their enjoyment. Private Benefit No private or incidental benefit accrues to the Trustees of the Friends or any other unintended person or organisation. Possibility of Harm No harm or possibility of harm could arise from the purpose of the Friends or the carrying out of that purpose.
