Public benefits

The benefits that flow from this purpose include raising public awareness of dangers in the home along with providing advice and information aimed at addressing these dangers so that the home is a place free from accidental injuries. The ultimate benefit is to see a reduction in the number of people injured or killed because of accidents in the

home. These benefits are evidenced through behaviour change leading to a reduction in admissions to hospital A&E departments and also through feedback from the public following events we have run. Our beneficiaries are the general public and there is no harm caused to them flowing from this purpose. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose.

What your organisation does

We are committed to preventing accidents in the home across the Ballymoney Borough Council Area. We do this by raising public awareness of home safety issues through sharing information and advice through press releases, competitions, talks to local groups and attending information events/health fairs. We also run home safety events (e.g.

Carbon Monoxide awareness training or Blind cord/chain safety training) aimed at equipping the public with knowledge and information about how to make the home a safer place. We also provide resources (e.g. leaflets and posters) and run electric blanket safety testing and Streetwise events. We also staff Hazard House along with our colleagues in Moyle and Coleraine HAP Groups on a volunteer basis. Our membership is made up from elected members and officers from Ballymoney Borough Council as well as representatives from statutory organisations and volunteers from local community organisations with an remit or interest in Home Accident Prevention and interested individuals.
