Public benefits

The trustees believe that all six of our purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefits requirement. Purpose one - To provide a forum for the Bahá'í, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh Faiths to dialogue with one another on matters of religious, national and civic importance The direct benefit that flows from this purpose

is improved religious and racial harmony. This is achieved by regular quarterly meetings that provide an forum where people from different faith communities come together to engage in interfaith dialogue. This benefit is evidenced by feedback from our members who are drawn from diverse faith backgrounds from across Northern Ireland and attend regular public meetings of the Forum. Purpose two - To support a wider inter-faith dialogue with other religious and belief groups as appropriate The direct benefit that flows from this purpose is also improved religious and racial harmony. This is achieved through engagement with representatives from secular humanist and other backgrounds in events that the Forum organises and is evidenced by feedback following the engagement of the Forum with people from secular humanist and other faith backgrounds throughout Northern Ireland Purpose three - To represent the Bahá'í, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh faith communities when advising or collaborating with other organisations on matters relating to faith matters in Northern Ireland The direct benefit that flows from this purpose is improved understanding of faith diversity. This is achieved through representation of diverse faith communities in meetings that we arrange with other organisations and is evidenced by feedback from organisations with which the Forum has engaged. Purpose four - To advise Government and other appropriate organisations or bodies on faith matters in Northern Ireland The direct benefit that flows from this purpose is the benefit of raising awareness and understanding of religion. This is achieved through representation of diverse faith communities in meetings that are arranged with public bodies and in written submissions to public consultations. This benefit is demonstrated by feedback received from government agencies and other organisations. Purpose five - To encourage and facilitate education and training in matters relating to faith diversity in Northern Ireland The direct benefit that flows from this purpose is the promotion and increase of individual and collective knowledge and understanding of faith diversity. This benefit is achieved by the organisation and delivery of training courses. This benefit is demonstrated by feedback received by the participants in courses delivered by the Forum and also feedback received from organisations to whom we have delivered training. Purpose six - To organize and promote inter-faith activities and events in Northern Ireland The direct benefit that flows from this purpose is spreading the principles of religions and raising awareness and understanding of religious beliefs and practices. This is achieved by the organisation of activities and events and is evidenced by feedback received from the participants who have engaged in the activities and events organised by the Forum. The trustees do not believe that there is any harm that flows from our purposes.

What your organisation does

The Northern Ireland Inter-Faith Forum is a totally voluntary organisation that organises quarterly meetings that are open to the public. In addition to our quarterly public meetings, from time to time the Forum uses volunteers drawn from a range of faith communities to deliver courses on faith diversity in Northern Ireland and also engages with a

range of organisations to provide information about minority faith communities and faith diversity. The Forum also makes occasional responses to relevant government consultations.
