Public benefits

PURPOSE 1 Youthnet is a network of voluntary youth organisations. It exists to represent, support and develop the interests and aspirations of its membership, and to promote the independent voice of the voluntary youth sector. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the opportunity to engage

in and influence policy planning and implementation processes and have access to support and development opportunities leading to improved services in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. PURPOSE 2 Providing support for member organisations which in turn advance the emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and political development of young people. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include access to organisational development and governance practice support leading to improved services for children and young people. PURPOSE 3 Providing information, training and advice, which enhance the effectiveness of member organisations in promoting educational, social and leisure activities for the benefit of young people. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: increased knowledge and capacity at organisation and youth work practice level; and increased workforce development opportunities leading to more efficient and effective organisations. PURPOSE 4 Consulting its membership, primarily through the Advisory Council. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are participation and inclusion in policy making, strategic initiatives and implementation processes; increased understanding of how public policy impacts on organisations and children and young people; and opportunities for networking. PURPOSE 5 Representing the voluntary youth work sector at policy level. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are the opportunity to influence public policy planning and implementation processes to ensure that that policy and implementation processes meets the needs of organisations, children and young people. A further benefit is the opportunity for networking through participation in policy and implementation steering groups and committees. PURPOSE 6 Researching into good practice and innovative youth work and publishing the results of such research. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased knowledge and awareness of models of good practice and innovation in youth work and improved service provision which better addresses the needs of children and young people. PURPOSE 7 Providing a grant giving function. What benefit flows from this purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include support to provide services to children and young people and carry out charitable objects. Demonstration of Purposes All the above benefits will be evidenced through a number of evaluative means including: pre and post evaluation and feedback forms; membership surveys; qualitative interviews; research; and stakeholder feedback. Beneficiaries of above purposes The beneficiaries of all the above purposes are voluntary youth organisations, their staff and volunteers; and the children and young people with whom they work, across Northern Ireland. Is there any private benefit? Is it incidental or necessary? In relation to all above purposes : Staff and trustees may benefit from personal development opportunities offered through the organisation. Trustees may also access support services in the same way as other Youthnet beneficiaries. These benefits are incidental and necessary to fulfil the purpose of the organisation.

About Youthnet Youthnet is the voluntary youth network for Northern Ireland, representing the interests and aspirations of voluntary youth organisations that work with children and young people across Northern Ireland. Youthnet also works closely with colleagues across Great Britain and Ireland. Our Mission To champion and enable a vibrant,

influential and valued voluntary youth sector, responsive to the diverse needs and aspirations of children and young people.
