Public benefits
The Trustees believe that each of our purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. Purpose one - To provide opportunities to members of socially and economically disadvantaged communities to enable them to develop their capacity and skills in such a way that they are better able to identify and to help them meet their needs
and to participate more fully in their communities and society. The direct benefits which flow from purpose one are enhancement of individual and community capabilities, competences and skills. This includes increasing employability, supporting integration/re-integration within society and also includes improved wellbeing. These benefits are demonstrated through user feedback and regular independent evaluation of our services. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those facing disadvantage from any age group within the Island of Ireland. Purpose two - To promote mutual understanding, equality and diversity between people from diverse backgrounds. The direct benefits which flow from purpose two include knowledge sharing and promotion of an understanding of the challenges of sectarianism and racism and increased appreciation of equality and diversity. This results in greater knowledge and understanding about the issues affecting communities and enhanced appreciation of difference. A wider benefit which flows from this purpose is improved community and good relations. These benefits are demonstrated through user feedback and regular independent evaluation of our services. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the general public or a section of the public, such as those from a specific geographical area. Purpose three - To promote conflict resolution, reconciliation and peacebuilding within a national and international context with a view to the relief of suffering, building and maintaining social cohesion and trust within and between communities. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include knowledge sharing and promotion of peace and reconciliation resulting in enhanced understanding and awareness of a range of issues which promote peace and reconciliation as a way forward. A wider benefit which flows from this purpose is improved community and good relations. These benefits are demonstrated through user feedback and regular independent evaluation of our services. This purpose does not lead to harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the general public or a section of the public, such as those from a specific geographical area. In relation to all purposes: The private benefits flowing from our purposes are the increase in knowledge, skills and understanding of Trustees, employees and people we work with which may be transferrable to other settings and payments made to employees in the form of salaries and wages and also to individuals/organisations who assist with some of our projects. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the charity’s benefits are provided to our beneficiaries.
