Public benefits
Prime Cut Productions meets the public benefit requirement in the following way. Our Memorandum states our objects are to “advance the education of the public in the arts and in particular to present, promote, organize, manage and produce plays of cultural and educational value” We demonstrate “flow from the charity’s purposes” through the
production of two international theatrical plays and accompanying outreach projects in Northern Ireland annually. This is “capable of being demonstrated” by a consistent track record of critically acclaimed theatre productions since 1992. It is “beneficial, not harmful” as it provides opportunities for the public in Northern Ireland to have ongoing access to works of art they would not otherwise experience and provide insight into a wealth of international experience thus providing cultural and educational value. Our work and the benefits flowing from it are open to the general public and highly inclusive, incorporating not only highly affordable pricing for audiences (please see below: section on Charging), but opportunities for participation, engagement and discussion as part of each production. Our work does not provide private benefit to individuals other than the incidental one of having personally enjoyed the experience of attending a production. As a theatre company, Prime Cut does charge a ticket price for attendance to its show. The money received from this is 100% directly invested back into the work of the company and is a necessary budget component to the creation of a zero line budget. Each year Prime Cut produces two productions of the finest international playwriting in Northern Ireland. In 90% of cases these are Northern Irish Premieres thus affording the general public here opportunities to attend an art event they might otherwise not have been able to. By ensuring these opportunities exist, our work helps to advance arts and culture in Northern Ireland through showcasing new and different kinds of drama here. It advances the education of the public in the arts by showcasing new and different ways of writing and producing theatre and introducing and exploring a wide range of subjects, many of whom may not be common knowledge here. The ancillary outreach and training opportunities that accompany each production advances this education further through providing direct opportunities for members of the public to engage directly in the arts through workshops and discussions. Prime Cut is a highly inclusive organization. While all our work is open to the general public, we are aware that ticket pricing may be inaccessible to some due to economic factors therefore we ensure that we have funding in place to subvent this, putting in place a range of offers including free travel and/or extremely low ticket prices to disadvantaged and marginalized community groups across Northern Ireland. The training and outreach projects that accompany each production offer further education in the arts by providing opportunities to increase skills sets and actively participate and perform in plays of educational and cultural value. All our work is open to everyone, regardless of gender, age, economic, social, political or religious background and sexual orientation. Prime Cuts work advances the arts and provides public benefit by: • Being open to all through producing publically performed plays • Inclusive to all by being affordable ad widely targeted • Enhancing public appreciation of the arts and culture by providing access to important works of art not previously available in Northern Ireland. • Providing educational opportunities for participation and training in the arts for the public.
