Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from the purposes include improved links and relationships between the beneficiaries (the Sudanese community) and the local community in Northern Ireland, improved integration into local society as well as with government bodies, access to schools and the wider system. Further benefits include the preservation of
Sudanese culture amongst the beneficiaries who are away from their homeland as well as educational outcomes such as improved IT literacy, Language skills etc. Specifically in relation to the provision of ‘humanitarian aid’ this assists Sudanese people in Northern Ireland to feel that they have kept links with their homeland and honour their responsibilities to it – the direct benefit is feeling less homesick and improved links between the two countries. These benefits can be evidenced through regular internal reports and external reports from government bodies as well as feedback from the beneficiaries and other community groups. The organisation sees no harm arising from its purposes and there are no specific fees charged for facilities – a membership subscription is chargeable for upkeep and running of the group but is waived in the cases of those in poverty. The only private benefits arising are where our facilities are inadequate and we use the centres or resources of other community groups or are required to hire buses etc. These are incidental and necessary in order to fulfil the purposes.
