There was signifcant repairiring and restoring the stonework of the church, the bell towers and chapel ceiling religious paintings. As a result Holy Cross Church is now not only a building of beauty but also immense pride to the people and parishioners of Ardoyne. Holy
Cross Church is open to visitors throughout the day to call, say a prayer (if so inclined) and enjoy the architecture splendour and high level of craftsmanship throughout the intricate floor mosaics, marble alter and ceiling paintings. Holy Cross Church continues to retain Listed Place of Worship Status with NIEA (Historic Buildings Section). Holy Cross Church was awarded Listed Grade B+ Status it is one of only four such buildings remaining on Crumlin Road. Undoubtedly building project has caused some noise and traffic interference to neighbouring houses facing the Crumlin Road. However constant communication and explaining the significant benefits to the parish and parishioners to be enjoyed once Houben Family Centre is completed have generated groundswell of goodwill and acceptance for the project. Holy Cross Church is open to all. Hence no private benefit or incidental benefit has been realised from the work done by Holy Cross Trust on the church restoration project. Purpose 2 Operating on an ‘Open To All’ basis neighbours from adjoining communities will be invited to join parishioners from Holy Cross Ardoyne on a range of activities: day creche, educational and recreational classes as well as Health and Therapy services to be delivered by ASHP (Ardoyne Shankill Health Partnership). Educational classes are run from basic literacy to homework and computer clubs. As well as a variety of recreational events from UniSlim, Music to Dance lessons. Holy Cross Trust has established a Hall Management Committee which will strictly adhere our ‘Open To All’ approach to welcome both parishioners from Ardoyne as well as residents and neighbours from adjoining communities. In an effort to promote reconciliation and good will throughout North Belfast. Neither Holy Cross Trust Church nor the Passionist Order will enjoy any direct or incidental financial benefit from any activities run in the Houben Family Centre. Holy Cross Trust Church has established a Hall Management Committee to oversee the well running and maintenance of the Houben Family Centre. Purpose 3 Holy Cross Trust furthers the life chances and circumstance of parishioners from Holy Cross Ardoyne. Holy Cross Trust performs multiple roles from offering technical (and where appropriate) professional advice to Passionist Community of Holy Cross on the maintenance and general upkeep of ‘plant and premises’ within the Holy Cross site. Holy Cross Trust structure facilitates establishment of ad hoc committees specifically convened to address the social welfare issues highlighted by Groups and Associations within the parish. Various community groups expressed need for modern Parish Family Centre that could deliver a mix of socially beneficial programmes as well as recreational and educational activities for all age ranges within the parish.
