Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purposes include a greater social inclusion amongst visually impaired people, in particular those who are elderly or living in isolated/rural areas, and a greater empowerment of these beneficiaries through being better informed and able to make decisions. The benefits can be evidenced through the active
gathering of feedback from the beneficiaries. No harm of any kind arises from our purposes. The beneficiaries are visually impaired people in Enniskillen and County Fermanagh. There are ‘private benefits’ to our volunteers who may receive training or to other organisations who may access our facilities, but these are incidental and necessary in order to provide our services.

FTNA provides a weekly audio recording of news from local newspapers. This helps to combat the social isolation often experienced by visually impaired people by ensuring that they are kept fully informed about their local community in a way that is not covered by the conventional media.. The recordings also include entertaining magazine items as
well as information of relevance to the social, welfare and health needs of our client group. Feedback is actively encouraged from the client group. Training is also offered to the volunteers who read and record the weekly talking newspaper.
