Public benefits

Purpose 1 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include - The Empowerment of the local community to improve their living conditions and environment. Provide a more stable, safer neighbourhood by developing strong, positive relations between different people within the community. Improved health and wellbeing for the local community.

Increased education and skills for participants. Increase social interaction and inclusion with other members of the local community. Access to further training and employment opportunities. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from users, attendees at courses, etc. A detailed record is maintained of the events and those using the facilities, including numbers attending, etc and is available for inspection. Participants have also being successful in obtaining certificates & qualifications through our courses. No harm will flow from this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are mainly (but not restricted to) inhabitants of the local area, including areas of Derrycorry, Derryhirk, Annaghmore, Tullyroan, Moy & Loughgall and to those visiting the area. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose will be incidental and will include skills enhancement and experience gained through participation in activities. The building of positive community relations at a local level and the development of a more inclusive civic and cultural identity. Provide opportunities for the local community to explore their culture, history and identity. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from users, attendees at courses, lectures etc. A detailed record is maintained of the events and those using the facilities, including numbers attending, etc and is available for inspection. No harm will flow from this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are mainly (but not restricted to) inhabitants of the local area, including areas of Derrycorry, Derryhirk, Annaghmore, Tullyroan, Moy & Loughgall and to those visiting the area. What your organisation does

- Derryhirk Rural Development Association organise and run a number of events throughout the year - Annual events such as Senior Citizens Dinner, Childrens Christmas Party and Harvest Thanksgiving Service are designed to foster Social Interaction and Inclusion and to bring the neigbourhood together and develop a closer community, we have also

provided trips to the theatre, etc. including transport. - We hold the lease of Derrycorry Orange Hall and manage it as a Community Centre, which is available to the inhabitants of the local area at minimal costs. One of the first projects of our group since inception was obtaining funding from RDC and managing the project of rebuilding the hall, to provide suitable facilities for the community. - Increase education & Skills by organising Training / courses for the community and volunteers in many different subjects, both educational and recreational, these have included Basic ICT, Food Hygiene, First Aid, Organising Events, Child Protection, Marshalling & Stewarding, Equality Awareness, Disability Awareness, Flower Arranging, Christmas Crafts, Jewellery Making, Musical Tuition, etc. - Promote Historical / Cultural activities by organising historical lectures, musical tuition and close links to local historical / cultural societies. - Running fund raising events, e.g. Auctions, Sponsored Walks, etc. - Improve Health / Wellbeing events by running sports activities, e.g. 5-a-side football competition - Working with funding bodies on specific projects, e.g. Awards for All, Dungannon District Council, Turkington Fund, Community Foundation NI, Ulster-Scots Agency, etc.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to: • promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the local area and its environs (hereinafter described as “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of the social welfare, education, recreation or other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. • Advance knowledge and appreciation of the Ulster-Scots language, music and culture and to encourage understanding and acceptance of all indigenous cultures to the area of benefit. In particular the Association will a) Advance through education the skills and knowledge of the inhabitants of the area of benefit. b) Facilitate the greater involvement of marginalised sections of the community, in particular women and girls, young people, the disabled and the elderly in the life of the community. c) Promote awareness of the history, folklore and cultural heritage of the area. d) Encourage acceptance, understanding and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the area of benefit. e) Promote, by education and encounter, good community relations with other groups and cultural traditions and to interact with same in a spirit of peace and community reconciliation.
