Public benefits
The direct benefits flowing from the purposes of Moneyneena & District Development Initiative are that the inhabitants of Moneyneena and surrounding areas have a community facility in their own area built and managed by local people which allows people of all ages to access a range of community activities. The Senior Citizens benefit because they
have their own club and are able to devise and manage a range of suitable social and leisure activities. Pre-school children and their parents also benefit because they have a professionally managed pre-school childcare facility which can be utilised by local families meaning that they do not have to travel long distances to access such provision. Local inhabitants of all ages benefit from the range of training courses both recreational and leisure educational classes and access to the local history group. Children of primary school age and their parents who have an interest in fostering the Irish Language benefit from the provision of a community based Irish Language nursery and primary school. These benefits can be demonstrated in a variety of ways. The Management Committee have regular feedback sessions with all users of the Centre. Evaluation sheets are made available to the participants at all courses and classes. The Senior Citizens Group feeds ideas, comments and criticisms directly to the Management Committee. This Committee also holds regular meetings with the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) of the Primary School and the Management Committee of the childcare facility. There is no harm flowing from any of the activities of Moneyneena & District Development Initiative and no private benefit apart from wages paid to the staff of the pre-school and primary school unit. These wages are incidental and necessary for the continued operation of these facilities. All other activities and management is voluntary and so there can be no private benefit going to any individual in the organisation.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
The organisation has developed and built a Local Community Resource facility which is able to accommodate a wide range of organisations and individuals in the local and surrounding Rural area of Moneyneena in South Derry. The Community facility which is owned and managed by the local community provides a range of activities including senior
citizens club, preschool and after school care, usage by the local Bowling Club and Primary Schools. Additionally educational classes have been held with the support of local training organisations and College of Further & Higher Education. The heritage & culture of the area is being kept alive through the centre providing support for the local history group and Irish language based nursery and primary school. The Centre is open to all within the wider community providing a resource whereby Community & Rural Development practical actions take place ensuring that Moneyneena continues to be a vibrant sustainable Rural community where local services and facilities can be maintained. The group continues to fundraise in the local area to raise much needed funds for the operation of both the Centre and its ongoing development. With no paid staff all community endeavours are undertaken on a voluntary basis with some events organised for other charitable causes including Action Cancer & Macmillan Nursing Care. Over the years Community Festivals have been held as a Social event and also to raise much needed funds. The group continue to develop new ideas and programmes that will ultimately impact on local people (for the better) and are at present developing a community park adjacent to the local community hall and primary school.
