Public benefits

Purposes 1) Bringing communities in Northern Ireland together, creating dialogue and learning about different Cultures through filmmaking and screenings. 2) Working with The Media Industry and Education Organisations to ensure employment, education and skill development within disadvantaged areas of Northern Ireland. Public benefit

statement The trustees believe that both our purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement Purpose one: ‘The benefits which flow from purpose 1 include, the promotion of religious or racial harmony or equality and diversity, increased wellbeing or confidence through taking part in an inclusive creative activity. Using community film making and screenings in communities from all backgrounds in Northern Ireland will promote good relations between people of different racial or ethnic groups by promoting knowledge and understanding between them. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from a recently completed intercultural film project in which a group of young Protestants, Catholics and Muslims used film to record questions and answers to each other as a tool of safe communication. Participants could ask questions that they may not normally ask face to face e.g., “why do you wear a hijab?”, or “why do you have bonfires?.” After a process of 8 weeks of recording questions and answers the group then came together to meet for the first time taking part in activities to build relationships. Members of the group gave feedback that they would never have developed these friendships or understood elements of each other’s cultures without this process. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public in Northern Ireland. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose 2: The benefits which flow from purpose 2 include, the development of individual capabilities, competences, skills and understanding and providing life skills training and the opportunity to use film as a tool for artistic expression. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from the participants previously involved our training programmes who are now creating their own work with the skills training we provided.
