Public benefits

Public access to: Bible teaching and study programmes; worship services, incorporating observance of Christian ordinances; and personal development and pastoral support programmes. The provision seeks to meet the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of individuals and build a sound Christian moral framework and social capital within the

communities it serves. A broad spectrum of tailored programmes ensures that the public benefit is both inclusive and unique to specific groups. These include: personal and social development activities for children and youth; mutual care and support network for families or individuals; and pastoral care and support for vulnerable groups. These benefits are demonstrated through informal responses from church attendees and members of the general public participating in the various outreach and youth programmes, and through formal annual reviewing and reporting. There is no harm arising from this purpose. The beneficiaries are members of the public, mainly from the greater Belfast and Lisburn areas, who attend voluntarily regular church services, community outreach programmes or children and youth activities. Overall, the trustees do not accrue any private benefit; their benefit is equal to that accrued by members of the public.

What your organisation does

Bethany Church provides the following public access, regular activities for all ages of people living mainly in the greater Belfast and Lisburn areas: worship and communion; Biblical teaching and proclamation of the Christian faith via a family service, Sunday School and a praise and teaching service; Every Boys’ and Girls’ Rally, Young Explorers,

IGNITE and IMPACT (youth provision); Parents and Toddlers; Home Group Bible Studies; Prayer meetings; Craft Evenings; Carer Support Group; Pastoral Home Visits; Senior Citizen Fellowship; Korean Church; and CHILL (young adults). In addition, a full-time support worker engages in community-based outreach programmes, delivered mainly in schools settings or in the church building. These include: Scripture Union programmes, Barnardo’s programmes for families; Bible Exhibitions; Youth for Christ activities, Alpha/Christianity Explored programmes and other related community engagement activities. Outside the regular church service and community outreach and youth programmes we distribute financial funds donated to Bethany Church through freewill offerings. We regularly allocate funds to support Christian outreach in the UK, to overseas mission work, to international humanitarian relief and to support individuals in training to work full-time in Christian service. The remainder is used to meet the general expenses of Bethany Church.
