Public benefits
The benefit that flows from promoting the arts for young people is the acquiring of new art skills by the young people. They attend class every Tuesday to learn juggling, unicycling, high wire, table sliding and many ore circus skills. The benefits which flow from this are increased confidence, greater self-awareness , opportunity to mix with
people from their own areas that they would never get the opportunity to mix with and exposure to art and art forms that they would never get the opportunity to be exposed. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose of relieving the need of young people by reason of their youth is increased knowledge and education in the arts, especially Circus, of young or economically deprived people in the Lisburn area. Community Circus Lisburn (‘CCL’) also supports the young people to offer the people from disadvantaged areas of Lisburn to attend one, two or three shows a year. These shows are normally free to attend. The young people and their communities have, over the years, learnt to appreciate the skills, practice, discipline and dedication required to acquire these news skills. CCL can demonstrate this by having completed two separate evaluations conducted by an experienced and independent arts consultant. These independent evaluations confirm the benefits that the CCL committee believe that the young people and the local communities receive from the rehearsals every Tuesday, the week long show training and the shows themselves. The young people have also had the confidence to request that the last two shows be about a subject matter which they have chosen. Through working with the young people CCL have had very well received shows in the topic of bullying. Also CCL were nominated for an All- Ireland Arts award. We also have the evidence of our annual “Nosey Questionnaire “which is completed by the parents of the young people. This “Nosey Questionnaire” details developments in the young person’s concentration levels, behaviour, confidence and even academic achievement. CCL committee and volunteers have all attended safeguarding training. CCl has a range of policies, safeguarding, safety, and equality that are all established to militate against these risks. The charity’s beneficiaries are the young people, aged between 8 and 16 who live the Lisburn City geographical council area. CCL particularly targets young people from the “Super Output “areas of Lisburn including Old Warren, Tonagh and TwinBrook. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that once the young people acquire the confidence and skill to perform circus skills they may perform these in different locations. During the existence of CCL many of our young people have performed in their Schools and / or local communities.
