Public benefits

To assist people with learning disabilities or physical, sensory or other impairment, mental ill health or who are vulnerable due to social or economic circumstances through the provision of advice, information and support in order to gain access to employment, education, economic, health, housing, leisure, social welfare and other services on the

same basis as others without such disadvantages.The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is disadvantaged people are provided with support to access further training and employment opportunities, thus enhancing their lifestyle and quality of life and allowing them to operate more effectively in the community. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback from service users, their families and carers. This purpose does not lead to harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are people with learning disabilities or physical, sensory or other impairment, mental ill health or who are vulnerable due to social or economic circumstances. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training, trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

AEL operate a Social Firm with the aim of providing training, work experience and sustained employment for people with mental ill health, learning disability and others from a disadvantaged background. The Social Firm offers a range of services to the public and private sector including packaging, sample making, mail shots/mail merge, sub contract

work & room hire. We also operate an online shop in which we sell our own packaged goods and also operate our own cafe on site. We provide 50 day opportunity placements per week to the NHSCT for individuals with learning disability.
