Public benefits
The benefits that flow from purpose 1 include improved employment in the greater Lisburn area and beyond. Those gaining employment will benefit from a better standard of living, higher self- esteem and respect. This in turn results in a stronger socio-economic environment which benefits the community as a whole. These benefits will be evidenced by
the number of individuals we help gain employment. No private benefit will result. The benefits that flow from purpose 2 include a better standard of living for those on the poverty line or suffering personal hardship or distress. This will be achieved by both the resale of donated furniture and the charitable giving of refurbished furniture to those suffering hardship, people in this category are usually referred to us through churches or agencies such as Citizens Advice. A Register of all such assistance is maintained These benefits will be evidenced by the number of individuals or families we provide with furniture free of charge. No private benefit will result The benefits that flow from purpose 3 include better training and skills for those who have been long-term unemployed and volunteered to take part in our various employability programs. This will equip these individuals better for work and to play a fuller part in society. These benefits will be evidenced by the number of individuals volunteering to take part and help not only themselves but others also. No private benefit will result. The benefits that flow from purpose 4 will include a better trained employment force as individuals taking part in our training programs not only receive on the job training but general employability skills helping to raise their self-esteem, confidence and standard of living. These benefits will be evidenced by the number of individuals taking part in our programs and gaining some form of employment. No private benefit will result. The benefits that flow from purpose 5 will include benefits to the community at large as those fulfilling community service hours carryout work in the community servicing public areas by way of general ground maintenance. The elderly and infirm will also benefit by having their gardens maintained. VSL also facilitate the training of those who suffer from mental or physical disabilities by providing on the job training in line with their abilities, this greatly benefits these individuals by stimulating their mind and body and gives them a very high degree of personal achievement. These benefits will be evidenced by the number of individuals taking part in either community service or any of our structured training programs. No private benefit will result. The benefits that flow from purpose 6 will include a significant decrease in the volume to landfill as a result of our furniture recycling project, this also promotes the idea of re-use, recycling and refurbishing in the community. This is evidenced by the number of tons of donated furniture we process as the weights of each item received is recorded. No private benefit will result.

Voluntary Service Lisburn is a community based organisation which operates for the benefit of the people of the greater Lisburn area offering a furniture refurbishing and recycling project which in turn provides on the job training and employment skills to those who are long-term unemployed. The furniture project also provides much need stimulation
to those suffering from mental or physical disabilities as they also take part in some of our training programs. Some of the refurbished furniture is gifted to those in need to help improve their standard of living or just to give them the basic living requirements. Voluntary Service Lisburn also operates a Community Service program to facilitate those that have been given community service hours by the justice system as opposed to imprisonment. All the hours served by these individuals are for the benefit of the community usually maintaining public areas by way of ground maintenance.

Charitable purposes
The relief of unemployment for the benefit of the public in such ways as may be thought fit, including assistance to find employment; To relieve either generally or individually persons resident in Northern Ireland and elsewhere who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress by the provision of furniture and accessories calculated to reduce the need, hardship or distress of such persons. To provide vocational training, support and work experience for unemployed persons who volunteer and to help those in need especially but not exclusively through the provision of work, training courses and vocational courses so as to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society more fully. To advance education by the provision of work experience and training opportunities to disadvantaged individuals including long-term unemployed and economically inactive people and the provision of volunteering opportunities. To promote or undertake specific projects or provide direct services to provide employment or to make provision for community service and work for volunteers to advance the welfare of those who by reason of age, infirmity or disability, education,imprisonment, poverty or social and economic circumstances, inadequate family support or other valid cause are socially deprived or disadvantaged with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons; To promote improvement of the environment and undertake or furnish assistance as the Charity may from time to time deem appropriate to any other person or body undertaking a project or projects of environmental work and to advance education about the importance of pursuing a sustainable lifestyle through repair, re-use and recycling.
