Fuel poverty currently affects over 40% of Northern Ireland households. It is the result of a complex interplay between three variables: low income, energy inefficient homes and high fuel costs. Bryson Energy addresses these issues, working with households to address fuel poverty. 5. such other charitable purposes for the benefit of the public. The purposes of the organisation are charitable as they fall under the approved purposes as listed in the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 specifically: • the prevention or relief of poverty • the advancement of environmental protection or improvement • the advancement of education Our services are provided principally to households on low incomes and include: • Impartial advice on energy conservation and efficiency. • Benefit assessments to ensure the households are receiving all the public benefits to which they are entitled. • Provision of home insulation and upgraded heating systems through the Government’s Warm Homes scheme. • Tackling high fuel costs by developing and piloting new approaches to energy provision such as renewable energy measures or community energy brokering. The benefits of our services can be demonstrated through service user satisfaction surveys, third party inspections of our home insulations and other evaluations which have highlighted the services’ impact; e.g. 45% of households assisted had not been receiving all the benefits to which they were entitled with an average increase in benefits of £36.62 per week OR Community bulk oil purchase scheme in North West resulted in average annual savings of £270 per household. Any potential harms are outweighed by the service benefits and alleviated through a formal process of risk assessments alongside robust health and safety policies and procedures. There are no private benefits to any individuals connected with the organisation other than the payment of salaries to staff which is a necessary requirement in order to provide our services and therefore incidental to the carrying out of the purposes.
