World of Owls (woo) is the only animal sanctuary of its kind in Northern Ireland offering a varied range of benefits for the public. The animals at Woo are rescued. We aim to promote humane behaviour towards animals by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of care and attention by reason of
sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering amongst animals. Our benefits are for all members of the public. We provide a service to other sections and groups serving our communities e.g. PSNI / emergency services / other animal welfare organisations. A centre to be enjoyed by all walks of life catering all abilities and disabilities, to be free to come and enjoy the wonders of nature in a natural environment. Offering a range of services to many disability or minority groups with proven success. Increased knowledge Owls are one of the most under-studied animals proving to be a very popular creature because of their involvement in blockbuster movies such as “Harry Potter” and “Legends of the Guardians”. Owls have only taken on interest around 75 years ago, we as humans are learning more of these wonders of the natural world. People we encounter take great delight in learning new facts about owls in which they had only ever relied on myths. Education of the public is not restricted to within the confines of our physical premises. Woo operates a Road show facility, peripatetic by nature which visits, not exclusively or confined to; educational facilities, community centres, residential facilities and public events throughout the year. The purpose of this mobile facility being to reach as many people in the pursuance of the benefits and personal enrichment that can be obtained from animal contact and best practice. Proven to improve the life of people in the therapeutic nature of showing that care and compassion shown to animals will indeed encourage care and compassion towards other people. The benefit of life improvement. Woo has successfully worked with most hospitals/institutions dealing with psychological and mental disabilities. Clients with e.g. anxiety & depression have attended Woo as placements in aid to their well-being/recovery with positive; we have also been brought into secure locations with animals to aid recovery in patients that cannot travel to the centre. Public benefits are also echoed by way of pleasing comments from thousands of the general public through social media i.e. * Trip Advisor and Facebook Woo has a visitor book with many thousands of positive remarks from visitors from all over the world. Woo provides a safe haven for people to come & enjoy in a natural neutral environment. - Providing a centre/service for educating the general public in the areas of animal protection, conservation & biodiversity, and the advancement of animal welfare. - Providing a free advice service to the public in relation to animal wildlife related matters in relation to rescue, rehabilitation, personal protection, first aid and legal issues, etc. - Offering a service of re-homing animals that have been abandoned mistreated or lost. Woo offers a free service to the public that would want to enrich their own life and life’s of their families by obtaining a pet by providing training & information they would require to keep the pet humanly and safely obtaining the best enjoyment for the purpose they intended. Woo operates with volunteers from so many different walks of life offering them opportunities and enrichment from so many different activities. There is absolutely no private benefit and no potential harm from any of Woo objectives.
