Public benefits

What benefit flows from the purpose? Resolving conflict through mediation results in a less violent society. As individuals work to find their own resolutions through mediation the resolutions achieved are more sustainable. How can the organisation demonstrate this benefit? We can demonstrate our benefit by reporting the number of cases we bring

to peaceful settlement. We can indicate from our case assessments what participants predicted would happen if our interventions did not work. We can calculate the costs of the ‘worst case scenario’ and contrast this with the cost of the intervention to show value for money. Who are the intended beneficiaries? As we work across NI and across all institutions and communities our beneficiaries can be any person who is experiencing conflict. Is there any harm or potential for harm as a result of the purpose being carried out? We work under the do no harm principle and that is why we assess all cases before beginning an mediation process. Unfortunately however, in the exploration of behaviours, feelings, issues and relationship there is always the potential to develop a process that results in unintended hurt. We try to mitigate against this and we work with any hurt that is caused because we also acknowledge the potential for this to occur. Does anyone gain a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out? No
