Public benefits

The primary beneficiaries of our work are the pre-school age children from Dee Street Area of East Belfast. For nearly 40 years we have been providing a pre-school playgroup (5 mornings a week during term time) at an affordable price and run by suitably qualified leaders. A secondary beneficiary are the parents and guardians of the children who

avail of the service. By providing this community based service in a community of perceived need we are fulfilling our charitable purposes in that we enhance the lives of the children who avail of our service with a quality childcare provision. The Ballymacarrett Youth and Community Project Playgroup has an educational and health benefit for the children who attend. As a community based playgroup we also promote a community development ethos which contributes to the well being of the community from which the children are drawn. There is no private benefit for any employee or trustee. The benefits to the children are demonstrated throught the pleasure they derive in atending the playgroup and their preparedness for the nursery school. There is no harm from the purpose.

What your organisation does

We run a community based playgroup, 5 mornings a week (term time) in the local community centre. Staff are qualified. The playgroup is registered by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. we receive grant aid from Department of Education through the Early Years Fund and grant support from Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. We are a community

based playgroup that has been operating in Dee Street from 1976 without interuption to the service over that period.
