Public benefits

To foster an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement among parents and or carers of children to discuss in a safe and confidential setting issues relating to parenting. We seek to develop parents/carers individual capabilities, competences, skills and understanding. Families First supports families through nurturing relationships between

children and parents at no cost. The benefits which flow from this purpose include; improved parenting skills improved coping skills improved family relationships improved social skills reduction in stress and anxiety and improved relationships between children, parents/carers and schools. We are aware of these benefits as a result of the evaluations of parents, primary/preschool principals and our facilitators. Each term our facilitators attend a supervision session to further improve the quality of our provision.

What your organisation does

In co-operation with nursery and primary schools we present six weekly sessions on parenting skills, covering topics which meet the challenges facing today's families. All our facilitators are fully trained and have been vetted by Access NI. Our motto is -'Helping to improve family life'

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to advance education and to promote parenting skills for the benefit of the inhabitants of Northern Ireland (hereafter called the 'area of benefit') without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and in particular: a)To foster an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement among parents and or carers of children to discuss in a safe and confidential setting issues relating to parenting.
