What your organisation does

The charity seeks to establish a social enterprise as a vehicle providing sustainable training and work opportunities for disadvantaged young people as well as other vulnerable groups in Dromore and its’ surround. We aim to achieve this by manufacturing an arts & crafts product which opens up opportunities in woodwork, retail –direct and online, IT

and printing. We have been engaging with a wide range of statutory agencies as stakeholders and partners in the development of training programmes which will give the young people, a number of whom do not possess minimum educational requirements, potential qualifications enabling them to move more freely within the employment market. We also wish to create a number of permanent posts for this target group and to provide remuneration in excess of the minimum income standard as well as offering opportunities for self improvement by way of European programmes such as Erasmus+. Many of the target group suffer social exclusion and we therefore wish to provide an opportunity for the group to experience working in a cohesive team environment. We aim to encourage them to take ownership of the projects as well as pride in their own achievements, and to realise that through these achievements they can make a valued contribution to their local community. We also aim to involve other groups, particularly older people groups to share their experiences and talents with young people as a contribution to developing a more cohesive community. Dromore is an area not deemed by statutory agencies as an area of deprivation, as currently defined, with the consequence that other charitable groups undertaking valuable work in the area find it difficult to access funding. We aim to make future surpluses available for these groups to apply for, as well as for partnership and collaborative projects which contribute to the well-being of the whole community
