Public benefits
CADCFA exists to preserve the art of traditional country fiddling in its purest form thus leading to an advancement of culture throughout Counties Antrim and Derry. Membership is open to those sympathetic with this aim. Anyone can attend the association’s public performances. It is a cross community organisation therefore no sector of the public is
barred. CADCFA provides tuition in Fiddle to students wishing to take music exams from preliminary grade up to diploma level. The higher grades can help our trainees get access to university. Thus we contribute to education in an formal sense. Some students wish to learn the fiddle but do not wish to take examinations. They do benefit from this education in an informal sense The primary beneficiaries of CADCFA fall into two groups. (1) The younger members learning to play the fiddle. The benefits to them are a) the chance to sit exams and gain a musical qualification up to grade 8 or even diploma level. b) These qualifications can give them UCAS points and help them get to University c) Being able to play a musical instrument is a benefit they can retain for life d) They learn to mix on a social level with people of all ages and from all backgrounds at our classes and social events. These benefits can be demonstrated in the consistently high performance achieved by our students in the music exams. The social benefits c) and d) can be demonstrated by the fact that we retain a large percentage of our younger members right through the years till they have to leave the area to go to university. Of those who do not leave for University or return back from University a good number attend our senior classes or monthly practices and socials. (2) Our older members continuing to play the fiddle (or on occasion learning to play the fiddle) The benefits to them are a) The chance to maintain the skill they have learned. b) The opportunity to socialise These benefits can be demonstrated by the fact that we have fiddle players attending our monthly practices varying in age from 20 to 70. These players also faithfully attend our regular socials. The secondary beneficiaries of CADCFA are (1) The parents of our younger members. They get the satisfaction of seeing their children obtain a skill and a musical qualification. This is benefitted by the fact that they pay their childrens fees annually and attend our socials to support them (2) The general public, enjoy our socials and support bigger events such as our biannual concert when we fill the town hall in Ballymena There is no one obtaining a private benefit in the sense of a financial profit. There is no potential harm from our object.
