What your organisation does

Creggan Community Association (CCA) was established in the late 1970s and works to revitalise the spirit of this very rural area by developing community facilities and activities. Significant development has taken place from the humble beginnings of the committee formed to purchase and develop a plot of land. In 1999 the Association became a

limited Company and proceeded to add to the facilities with the building of a Community Hall. Today the present committee provide a wide range of activities for the local people and those of surrounding areas, in a large, modern, multi purpose community hall, built at the start of the Millenium. Current facilities include the Community Centre, the Hall, playing fields, tennis courts and play-park situated on a spacious site with large tarred car park and enclosed grounds. Presently, the committee provide facilities for approaches to healthier living and fitness improvement, through managing weekly Boxercise, Circuit Training and Bootcamp sessions on separate week nights. Cultural pursuits and interests are accommodated with Irish Dancing as well as Irish Language classes. Although St. Patrick’s P.S closed in 2010, the Community Centre remains as a focal point for local children through the provision of a Youth Club, which currently has over 20 children on register. At the other end of the spectrum, older members of the community are welcomed through the doors for weekly bingo, bowls and card playing sessions. We also hold annual events such as sports day, litter pick up and BBQ and have developed our football pitch. Finally, extending our remit further afield, the Community Centre currently plays host to a very successful monthly teenage disco. Our activities cater for the widest range of ages and interests and the Community Hall and Centre are well used on a regular basis. We also hold fundraising events throughout the year for various charities.
