Public benefits

Purpose 1 Benefits that flow from this purpose are that parents and the wider family are given financial assistance during difficult and testing financial times when dealing with a family member affected by head injury. In many instances household income is severely impacted on during this period and this causes further stress upon family

members, who are already dealing with the family member affected by head injury. The benefit of being able to offer financial assistance is that it ultimately allows the parents and wider family to devote their love, care and attention to the person affected. This has also benefits in terms of the recovery of the individual affected. This benefit is demonstrated by parents being able to take time off work without having the worry or stress of meeting the demands of household and other bills. Parents and the wider family are able to devote more attention to support the rehabilitation and recovery of the person affected by head injury. Purpose 2 Benefits that flow from this purpose are that brothers and sisters of those affected by head injury are given moral and emotional support, at a time when their parents are focused on the individual affected by head injury. It also provides an opportunity for brothers and sisters to be distracted from the challenges they face at home by providing them with recreational opportunities at a time when their family are unable to provide such opportunities. Parents are also comforted knowing that their other children are being provided with this range of support. This benefit is demonstrated by brothers and sisters being provide with emotional support during difficult and testing times for their families. They also have the opportunity to distance themselves from the challenges being faced in the home by engaging in recreational activities. Purpose 3 Benefits that flow from this purpose are that families affected by head injury are provided with the moral and emotional support that helps them cope with the incidents of head injury within the family. People that have experience of dealing with incidents of head injury are able to share their knowledge, experience and support to other families that find themselves in similar circumstances. This ultimately supports those affected to deal with the incident of head injury within a family. This benefit is demonstrated by families being provided with moral and emotional support, listening and hearing from people that have been through the same challenging experiences. Purpose 4 Benefits that flow from this purpose are that the general public is made aware of the number of people and families affected by head injuries. It highlights the impact of head injury on the family and also raises awareness of some of the support available to families in dealing with head injury. This benefit is demonstrated by using all available PR outlets that can allow us to raise awareness of the nature and scale of head injuries in Northern Ireland. The beneficiaries vary across the purposes and include (1) the parents and families affected by head injury, (2) people directly affected by head injury in supporting rehabilitation and recovery, (3) the brothers and sisters of those affected by head injury, (4) the general public who are made aware of the scale and nature of people affected by head injuries in Northern Ireland. There is no harm or intended private benefit flowing from any of the purposes.
