Purpose Three (Preserving Health) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is improved health and well-being. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from residents/beneficiaries, official government statistics and regular evaluation of our services. The beneficiaries of this purpose are children, young people and adults living within
the Greater Shantallow Area and its environs in Derry City Council. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. A private benefit to Liberty Consortium staff (salary) and a range of service providers may arise from the health education and awareness programmes however these are necessary to deliver the programmes and ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose One (Relieving Poverty) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is a reduction in the impact of poverty on people’s quality of life, the prevention of poverty and physical, social, community and economic improvements within the Greater Shantallow Area and its environs within Derry City Council. These benefits are evidenced through official government statistics, feedback from beneficiaries, new community/social physical infrastructure and a regular evaluation of our services. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are children, young people and adults living within the Greater Shantallow Area and its environs in Derry City Council. A private benefit to Liberty Consortium staff arises by their employment to help deliver our purpose, however this is necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose One (Advancing Education) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is a more skilled, educated and qualified population within the Greater Shantallow Area. These benefits are evidenced through examination/test results, official government statistics and feedback from community/voluntary groups and individual service users. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are children, young people and adults living within the Greater Shantallow Area and its environs in Derry City Council. A private benefit to Liberty Consortium staff (salary) and a range of service providers may arise however these are necessary to co-ordinate and deliver the education/training programmes and ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Four (Providing facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objects of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants) The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is improved community life and the development & maintenance of new & existing community infrastructure based within the Greater Shantallow Area and its environs in Derry City Council, so that they can be used by the local community. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from residents/beneficiaries, feedback from community/voluntary groups and regular evaluation of our services. The beneficiaries of this purpose are children, young people and adults within the Greater Shantallow Area and its environs in Derry City Council. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. Liberty Consortium manages the Playtrail project, an ‘inclusive’ outdoor play & educational facility based within the grounds of Foyle View & Belmont House Special Schools in Derry, on lands leased from Western Education & Library Board. The facility currently welcomes in excess of 70,000 visitors per annum and provides a year long programme of
activities to animate the space. The Playtrail currently incorporates 3 ‘inclusive’ play areas, a covered 200 seater amphitheatre space, woodland walk and large community allotment scheme, all linked by a 1 km fully accessible trail network. A mix of programmes & activities including children’s birthday parties, team building, Forest School activities, environmental education and much more, is all accessed by local schools, community groups and the wider public. The Consortium also have a strong Transition Programme, increasing the opportunities available for young adults with learning disabilities ‘transitioning’ from school and seeking new challenges within training, education and/or work experience. The programme currently provides OCN accredited opportunities in Horticulture, Life Skills, Working as a Volunteer, Peer Mentoring, Disability Awareness, Music, Creative Arts and Dance.
