Public benefits

a. to provide an outlet for musical and dramatic talents in the district of Banbridge and other areas. The direct benefit is the development and expansion of skills in music, dance and drama through the forum we provide for members. We provide access, free of charge, to professionals who provide coaching and direction in Stagecraft, with a goal of

producing high quality entertainment at modest cost to the local community. The benefits of exposure to the Arts is well recognised. The continuity of our society for 71 years demonstrates the success of our efforts. No harm flows from this purpose. The immediate beneficiaries are the participating membership (but subsequently the public audiences from the Banbridge district and surrounding area). A private benefit may arise to Trustees from our programme of training eg. Child Protection, Risk Assessment, First Aid etc. Through this training the Trustees gain skills which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our membership. b. to provide opportunities for the enjoyment of music and drama by the population of all areas. The direct benefits include inter alia the increased awareness, improved knowledge and appreciation of Performing Arts within the Banbridge community. We continue to be an all-encompassing Musical Theatre group and strive to produce high quality shows which are both entertaining and educational. The entertainment element is demonstrated by our support from our returning audiences and over-subscribed performances. The educational aspect is evidenced by the increasingly high standards set by our members. There is no possibility of harm in either our purpose or delivery as all our productions are aimed at a family audience. A private benefit may arise vicariously from our programme of ongoing training as trustees may gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. However these are incidental and necessary to ensure a high standard for our beneficiaries. c. the encouragement of interest in the arts amongst the young people of Banbridge District and further afield. The direct benefits which flow from this is an increased youth membership (aged 6-18), all of whom are expanding participation in Music, Dance and Drama activities culminating in high quality Musical Theatre productions. We provide a forum accessible to young people in the district to develop skills, increasing abilities whilst building on important inter-personal skills and confidence. These benefits are evidenced by the continuity of a growing youth section and continuity of productions every year. In providing facilities in the theatre for cast and chorus, there are risks of injuries from such as fly towers etc. Risk assessment procedures are adhered to and injuries are very rare and the benefits far outweighs the harm. Beneficiaries are children and youths aged 6 years to 18 years. There will be no private benefit from this purpose.

What your organisation does

Banbridge Musical Society are an established amateur Musical Theatre group of 74 years presenting 1 or 2 primary shows per year; a Musical in May and a children's show or concert in November coupled with several fundraising concerts and ventures. We provide a forum accessible to everyone to meet like-minded performers aiming to develop and expand

participation in Music, Drama and Dance with a goal of producing good quality entertainment for the people of Banbridge and surrounding areas. We have enjoyed much success in competing against other societies within the UK NODA and Irish AIMS Award schemes, verifying our standards. Currently we would have approx 50 adult members and 35 junior members.
