Public benefits

The objects of the Company are to produce high quality large- scale work for children to our main stage spaces throughout Ireland and the network of international festivals specialising in children’s theatre. To produce work designed to fill the middle-large scale venues in the North of Ireland with a target audience of children under eight

accompanied by parents/carers. To capitalise upon the age old popularity of magic as an essential ingredient in the art of entertaining children. To use traditional and new techniques of magic and illusion to create theatre which is truly startling, where the complicit suspension of disbelief is unavoidably usurped by genuine astonishment. To use magic and illusion to fuel a theatrical experience which borrows from circus, dance and performance art. To maximise upon the unique ‘live’ nature of theatre so that the audience experience is as vivid, memorable and empowering as possible Benefits flowing from this purpose include: access to cultural experience for young children from all sections of the community; opportunities for parents/carers and children to share the arts together, encouraging parent-child bonding and a positive focus for shared experience and communication These benefits are demonstrated in feedback from audience, participants and practitioners, and are described in our annual audited financial report To encourage appreciation of the arts and stimulate the artistic creativity of children. To present, promote, organise, and manage plays of cultural and educational value for children. To encourage children to become actively involved in all aspects of the performing arts and provide training and educational facilities and services to this end Benefits flowing from this purpose include access to arts activities of cultural and educational benefit for young children, helping to develop abilities which will be useful throughout life; opportunities to learn and think creatively through access to curriculum enrichment projects; increase in communication skills, confidence and creativity; support of cognitive, physical, emotional and linguistic development Benefits are demonstrated through feedback from audience, participants and practitioners; endorsed in reviews in the media; through sustained demand for our free educational and healthcare programmes and described in our annual audited financial report To coordinate with other providers of children’s work in order to raise the profile and status of children’s theatre and ensure a strategic approach to its delivery. To develop working partnerships with venues and festivals so that the work is as fully integrated as possible into their annual programme Benefits flowing from this purpose include: collaboration between arts organisations, arts venues and early years professionals, bringing a vibrancy to theatre activities created specifically for children, focussing on the needs and interests children, raising standards, promoting inclusion and equality of opportunity for all children Benefits are demonstrated in our participation in a vibrant, diverse youth arts sector in Northern Ireland; our annual programme of touring productions throughout the region and beyond; our active engagement in a world wide network of festivals specialising in children’s theatre and the flow of ideas and collaborations from this activity; our many awards for excellence, innovation and successful partnerships There is no harm flowing from any of these purposes The charity’s beneficiaries are children under the age of 8 years, from all sections of the community in Ireland, accompanied by parents/carers A private benefit to trustees and staff may arise from our programme of training in good governance, finance and child safeguarding. Through this training trustees and staff gain skills which are transferrable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries
