Public benefits
The objects of the Edgcumbe Gateway Club are: 1) The relief of people with a learning disability in particular by the provision of help and support for them and their families, dependants and carers and to prevent learning disabilities for the public benefit and; 2) To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for the recreation or other
leisure time occupation for people who have need thereof by reason of learning disability with the object of improving their conditions of life. The trustees believe that both our objects satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. Object 1: The direct benefits of this object include the provision of additional support for adults with learning disabilities and their families, carers and dependants. This benefit is demonstrated by feedback from members of the club and their families, carers and dependants. This object does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this object are adults with a learning disability and their families, carers and dependants who are living in Northern Ireland. Object 2: The direct benefits of this object include the provision of facilities and activities for adults with learning disabilities to exploit during their recreation/leisure time and hence improve their conditions of life by increasing opportunities available to them. This benefit is demonstrated by providing an opportunity for adults with learning disabilities to meet and participate in an extensive range of activities each Wednesday evening. This object does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this object are adults with learning disabilities living in Northern Ireland. There is also an incidental benefit to volunteers who assist at the club who gain experience in working with adults with learning disability. They also have access to training and will develop a number of skills which are transferrable to other settings.
