Public benefits

The sole aim and purpose of Little Amps is to at all times and in all ways possible encourage the individual development and educational progression of each of its children attending. These children range from 3 to 5 years old(pre school). We ensure our setting is safe and welcoming with age appropriate play faciliites- such as

sand/water/painting/ home corner/ construction/ writing area/ one to one room/ quiet/reading corner. The setting has weekly as well monthly themes eg, doctors and nurses and a parent who was a radiographer was invited to come in and chat to the children with items to display. another example is hairdresser and dentist for educating on teeth. Little Amps welcome and encourage the parents/guardians being involved in the daily running of the setting as it introduces the children to new ideas and activities. The children are encouraged and gently challenged in all the educational areas - such as maths / writing/language / personal, social and emotional development / physical play and exercise& the world around us. This is all carried out through play activities, puzzles, one to one with their key worker, plans are drawn up for each child, pictures and painting. We have a healthy eating policy and routine which also then teaches and encourages the children to eat healthily and think about a healthy diet and food. Little Amps, under DENI, while upholding the values and principles of and working in close connection with the Early Years Organisation, have the free place scheme and therefore the families in the surrounding area can benefit from this. As Upperlands is classed as socially deprived, with families depending a lot on benefits, then these families know their child is being eased into education through Little Amps with all the approved measures and its free. We are a non profit organisation with annually audited accounts. Little Amps want to encourage the development of each of the children. We want each child to be confident in themselves and ensure a feeling of self worth. We hope to give them a basic foundation in knowledge of maths/numbers and colours and writing which will help their confidence when they enter into Primary 1. We in Little Amps, as the childs first contact in Early Years education, want to promote self worth, self esteem and confidence at an early age and as they move on into primary education. There is no private benefit to any trustees or those connected with the early years setting - namely those who voluntairily come on the committee even for a short term (1 school year). the setting is regulated by the Education Board and inspected by Social Services, with annual accounts audited by an allocated accountant. Therefore there is no private benefit, either financial or otherwise to trustees and committee. Also ensuring the children and families needs are met, while upholding the values of Early Years. As Little Amps is the only pre school provider within a 5 mile radius, we feel there is no potential harm from the purpose. We promote Early Years and DENI learning and have inspections and checks carried out throughout the year. We have very good communication with and support from the local social workers and educational psychologists.

What your organisation does

Little Amps provides a safe and non harmful environment to facilitate the advancement of pre school years education. We want to ensure the child develops and learns at their own pace, coupled with gentle promptings to ensure their confidence and self esteem flourishes. Little Amps operates with a Management Committee - including 3 office bearers -

Chairperson, Secretary & Treasurer. the other committee members are voted on a yearly basis and this changes. We are truly very thankful for all their support as they give of their time and effort freely and work very hard. Our staff are all qualified to NVQ level3 in childcare. They have many years experience and are encouraged to seek out an new relevant courses they would like to attend. They also annually update their skills in eg. epipen, first aid, health&safety, food& hygiene. When a new child enters the setting we do our best to ensure they settle in and are happy and content. For example by letting the mother stay for alittle while for reassurance. Parents are invited at any time to voice any worries but we also hold 3 parent teacher interviews each school year(one per term), when they discuss the child's progress and any specific areas that have been identified by the key worker. Communication with the parent and their support is vital. The plans are discussed for the way forward. The children are all observed under the 6 areas of learning in DENI curriculum and we operate a health eating program which the benefits of such is discussed with the children. This is to ensure the positive development of the child's personal, emotional and social well being. The key workers record the activities and experiences of their designated children each day, and used when considering plans for that child. This ensures the plan is interesting to the child, to bring out the best in the child. The child is encouraged to work their way through tasks, think and explore options. We want to encourage self expression in language&art&crafts
