Public benefits

Ballynahinch Congregational Church provides benefit to its members and the general public by making known the Christian Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through our purpose of the advancement of religion. In doing so we believe that we promote Christian values and service to the community for the benefit of individuals and society as a whole. The

teachings of the Bible are presented in order to reach people outside of the Christian faith as well as building up and nurturing those who profess it, through the preaching and teaching of the word of God. The benefits which flow from these different services are demonstrated through the feedback and appreciative comments from many of those who attend and gain help and encouragement. Appreciation is also expressed by parents from outside of the church, who’s children and teenagers come to the uniformed organizations and youth activities and who have benefited from the Christian ethos and moral guidance which they have received. In all of what we do we believe that no harm can come from the purpose of the charity. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is related to the offices of minister and caretaker, who receive financial benefits which are necessary and incidental to the carrying out of duties as a result of their positions. All of our activities are open to the general public and are advertised on our website. Our beneficiaries include our members, their families and the community in which we live and work.

What your organisation does

The means we use in order to achieve our purpose of advancing the Christian religion and faith and the benefits which flow from it are many and varied. • Public worship. This takes place each Sunday morning and evening providing an opportunity to praise God, read His word and hear it explained. • Teaching and prayer. A Mid-week Fellowship is held

each Wednesday evening which gives an opportunity to benefit from in-depth teaching of God’s word and to pray for the needs of others in the church, the community and on the mission field. • Pastoral care. Visitation is carried out to people in hospital, residential and nursing home care or confined to their own home through illness or old age. Support, through counselling or spiritual and moral guidance, is given to individuals or families in need due to family crisis or bereavement. • Youth work. Youth work is carried out through a morning Sunday School, Bible Class and an evening Young Peoples Fellowship. During the week this is continued through two uniformed organizations with a Christian ethos, Girl’s Brigade and Boy’s Brigade and a Friday Youth Club. A Parent and Toddlers group takes place each Wednesday and caters for parents and carers, including ethnic groups living in the Ballynahinch area. • General. A senior citizen Thursday Fellowship, which gives an opportunity for friendship to those perhaps living on their own, and a Ladies Fellowship also meet. Each summer a Holiday Bible Club is held for children. • Website. Details of all church activities, news and events are available on the church website – ballynahinchcongregational.com. In addition to the above we respond to appeals for financial help to international disaster relief such as earthquakes or tsunamis. We recently supplied a generator to Mr Henna Singson of Lydia Book Ministries in Manipur, north eastern India.
