What your organisation does

The current Cooneen / Coonian Community Development Association structured as a Company Limited by Guarantee is a successor to the Cooneen / Coonian Community Association that operated since 1996. The company was established in 2007 but remained dormant until this year when all activities are now operating under this company. The Association was

set up in the rural community of townlands collectively known as Cooneen / Coonian, a large rural area in which the inhabitants have always considered themselves as coming from Coonian / Cooneen due to the strong historical identity with this rural area, including attachment to the local Catholic and Church of Ireland Churches. The most significant work of the association has been the acquiring of a site containing a disused Primary School and Catholic Church. Through securing of grant assistance and fundraising the former Primary School was brought to a condition suitable for use as a Community Hall, opened in 2000 and since then has very well used by members of the local community for a range of social, recreational and educational activities; examples being Old Tyme Dancing, Flower Arranging, Children’s Irish Dancing, Traditional Singing & Music & Storytelling Sessions, Line Dancing, Art, Pilates, Farmers Information Courses & Talks, Annual Outdoor Summer Ceili, Annual Christmas Party. The association has also worked on projects in association with bodies such as the Forest Service and Fermanagh District Council to enhance and develop facilities within Jenkin Forest and Lakes for angling and walking activities.
