Kilcreggan Homes provides quality homes and supported living in Northern Ireland for people with a diagnosed learning disability or autism who need support to live independently. The support provided by Kilcreggan Homes is person centred. The support-team work closely with tenants to enable the individual person to fully participate in all aspects
of their own lives. Tenants are encouraged and enabled to contribute in a meaningful way to their local community and to understand their rights, as well as their responsibilities. The direct benefits that flow from this are: - The provision of independent living with support to vulnerable members of society who may be unable to live independently in the wider community: - Developing person-centred support for individual service users to ensure that they receive the support that they need; - Providing a home of their own for those individuals who may otherwise be dependent on family or group accommodation; - Enabling marginalised individuals to fully participate in their local community; - Enabling individuals to have choice and fully participate in all aspects of their lives; - Supporting individuals to develop skills in all aspects of their lives that will enable them to live more independently. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from our service users, from other professionals and through regular inspections by RQIA and Supporting People. In promoting independence in this way there is an element of positive risk taking. Through risk assessments the potential risks are minimised as far as possible and the benefits to the service user of independence and choice are viewed as outweighing the potential harm. Kilcreggan Homes provides supported living in Carrickfergus for adults over the age of 18 with a diagnosed learning disability or autism who need support to live independently. Our service users are referred through Social Services and may come from either the local area or elsewhere in Northern Ireland. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that any training (e.g. in good governance, finance or recruitment) provided to our Trustees may develop skills which can used by them in other settings. This is incidental and necessary because these skills are necessary to ensure that the benefits are provided to our own beneficiaries.
