Public benefits

Purpose 1 – to alleviate suffering and trauma by the provision of a community-based drop-in centre or centres offering emotional support and counselling services to individuals in need. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include emotional support & counselling to people who feel they require the services and those who are referred to

us by other parties These benefits are evidenced by monitoring the beneficiaries. The beneficiaries of this purpose are anyone who has experienced bereavement or trauma as above. Purpose 2 – to relieve suffering and promote the preservation and protection of mental health of those people and their families in the area of benefit who are suffering or experiencing mental or emotional distress and anguish as a result of grief, bereavement, trauma, social and economic circumstances, paramilitary violence and terrorism, domestic abuse and violence or difficulties in their personal lives by the provision of advice, counselling and emotional support services. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include better mental health and soothing for people who have been involved with bereavement or trauma. These benefits are evidenced by feedback from beneficiaries and by monitoring their personal development following their experience. The beneficiaries of this purpose are anyone who has experienced trauma or bereavement as above. Purpose 3 – to encourage the bereaved and those suffering from the effects of trauma to provide mutual support and encouragement to each other with the aim of improving the conditions of life for the beneficiaries in the area of benefit. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include providing soothing and encouragement to the person involved and also any of their close relations or colleagues. These benefits are evidenced by feedback received from the beneficiaries on their increased wellbeing. The beneficiaries of this purpose are anyone who has experienced trauma as above. Purpose 4 – to relieve poverty and financial hardship by the provision of free or subsidized counselling services, advice and assistance to persons who, through lack of means, would otherwise be unable to obtain such services and advice. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include increased access to counselling and care services for people who do not have such access to and who are referred to us by other parties. These benefits are evidenced by monitoring the beneficiaries and their wellbeing. The beneficiaries of this purpose are anyone who has experienced trauma as above. Purpose 5 – to educate and train persons in counselling so that they may treat and relieve persons experiencing or suffering from mental and emotional distress and to advance public education on the impact of bereavement and of related issues. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include provision of more counsellors and the increased awareness of the effects of bereavement and related trauma. These benefits are evidenced by more counsellors being available to meet the needs of beneficiaries. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the people who become educated or receive the training and through their positive experiences they will care for others. There is no harm flowing from our purposes. There is no private benefit flowing from our purposes.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established for the advancement of education, the preservation, protection and promotion and mental and physical health and wellbeing, the relief of poverty, sickness and distress and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants and in particular but not exclusively those who have lost a relation or friend through death (hereinafter called the “beneficiaries”) resident in the Downpatrick area and its environs of Co. Down, Northern Ireland (hereinafter called “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, medical and other public health bodies, community and voluntary organisations and the beneficiaries in a common effort to promote health and relieve suffering with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries and in particular: (1) to alleviate suffering and trauma by the provision of a community-based drop-in centre or centres offering emotional support and counselling services to individuals in need.
