Public benefits

Objective 1: This objective benefits the Bulgarian community living in Northern Ireland which has grown considerably in the last 10 years. It aims to help members make informed decisions through the provision of relevant and correct information and direction to the right agencies and procedures. This is done at BANI's themed meetings as well as

via e-mail and social network media. BANI is also in the process of constructing its new website, where this information will also be published and easily accessible. The information sought and provided is in relation to various issues the Bulgarian community encounters such as employment rights, legal status, access to health services, dealing with police, participating in the Bulgarian elections by voting in NI, etc. Objective 2: This objective aims to provide language education to Bulgarian children and any other children and adults interested in learning the Bulgarian language. However, this objective reaches much further than this, as it aims to introduce the Bulgarian culture through its folklore music, dance and traditions to Northern Ireland for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone living in NI and as such add diversity and colour to the NI society. It hopes to promote Bulgarian culture thus educating the wider public and ultimately leading to better understanding of different cultures, cultural diversity and community cohesion. There may be incidental private benefit mainly related to some catering arrangements when organising events. There is no harm.

What your organisation does

1.The organisation's folk dance club ‘Chemshir’ runs weekly dance classes for all ages and teaches folk dances from different regions of Bulgaria. The Club regularly performs on stage at various events across Northern Ireland and beyond. These are excellent opportunities to showcase Bulgarian folk dance and folk traditions. 2. The organisation's

children’s Club ‘Little Green Angels’ regularly delivers themed educational and cultural workshops engaging children and adults alike. The club often delivers cultural workshops at public events for the benefit of the general public. 3. Through social events and cultural community projects, BANI provides opportunities for communication and social getting together, exchange of knowledge and experience, building friendships for its members. It aims to support and inspire its members to achieve improved self-confidence and national pride, and participate more fully in the NI society, thus enriching the local community. The organisational activities are delivered in partnership working with other agencies and organisations.
